French Quarter Cream Cheese Spread

Ingredients

    For the Cheese Layer

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 Tbsp Finely grated sweet onion
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder ( or 1 garlic clove, minced)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • For the Topping

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp whole grain mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 c pecans or walnuts, roughly chopped, slightly toasted

Directions

  1. Using a mixer, combine all ingredients for the cheese layer and form into 4" or 6" disc about 1" thick. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours minimum, preferably overnight. Bring to room temperature before serving.
  2. In skillet or small saucepan, melt 1/4 c butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, mustard and Worcestershire Sauce and cook over low heat until sugar dissolves; about 4 minutes.
  3. Turn off heat, add the pecans and stir to coat.
  4. Pour nut mixture over room temperature cheese and serve with crackers.
